Vancouver Painters Guide – The Basic Information about House Painting

Posted in Painting on May 12th, 2012 by alexander – Comments Off

Article by Kassel Painting

House painting is difficult not in terms of labor but in terms of decision making. One must choose the right balance between harmony and individuality. The house must not look too clashing when the adjoining houses are taken into consideration. But it also must not look too subdued that it gets boring.

When painting a house, the three major factors one must consider are:Type of house to be paintedColor of the house plannedType of paint to be used

After careful planning with these factors in mind, house painting should be easy.

House Type

Is the house an old house and painting it is more for restorative purposes? If so, the color scheme is already laid out although it sometimes is difficult to find a right match. There is a growing trend to use modern colors on older houses. When painted with a modern color, the house does take in a more distinct and attractive look.

Also consider that houses built prior to 1978 would have a higher chance that it was painted with lead based paint. Lead based paint is a serious health risk and extreme caution must be used when stripping it from the house. It is recommended to consult professionals when it comes to lead paint.

A small house usually would look bigger when painted with light colors, especially white. Conversely, a dark color may make a house look smaller but can be used to accentuate small details that would most probably blend in when using lighter colors.

Color

The main factor when it comes to house painting is what color to use. Usually the two most popular color groups when it comes to house painting are Neutrals and Naturals. Neutral colors evoke a cozy, relaxing feeling. They blend well with the surroundings and won’t really clash with the neighbor’s house. The most popular neutral colors are white, off-white, and cream. For a more modern neutral color, Lilac, is one to consider. Natural colors are colors one sees around nature. Even when using subdued naturals, the house evokes a sophisticated look. Natural colors run the gamut from Air (sky blue), Earth (earth), Water (Navy blue), to Fire (Red).

One also should consider the accent to be used. Accent is the secondary and tertiary colors used on the house trimmings such as the pillar, gate, door, etc.

Paint

Once the color is selected, the type of paint used should also be considered. Primarily, the material of the house should dictate what kind of paint to use. Paint comes in two types; Latex and Alkyd. Latex is water based and Alkyd is oil based.

Latex paint is the most common as it dries quickly, odorless and is environmentally friendly. Alkyd paint has a smoother appearance and is best when a paint sprayer is used.

The exterior part of the house is what is exposed to the environment. The paint should withstand heat, rain, snow, and the most extreme of weathers. Temperature conditions also affect the paint used.

Before painting the house, a paint primer must be used. A paint primer guarantees that the paint will grip to the surface of the house when applied. There are 3 types of primer, Alkyd, Acrylic, and Tinted Shellac. Depending on the material used, the correct type of primer must be used.

House painting is fun when one understands the technical principles behind it. A professional house painter would feel comfortable discussing the process when the home owner has prior knowledge of house painting intricacies.

There are a lot of things that you need to consider if you want to be successful with painting your house. If you want to save yourself from the tedious task of house painting, then Kassel Painting Ltd. is the best Vancouver painters that you can contact.

San Francisco, CA Fashion Designers Career Guide

Posted in Design on April 22nd, 2012 by alexander – Comments Off

The fashion industry is filled with talented individuals with the ability to separate the trivial from what’s destined to become an indelible trend. They create everything from intricate bangles and handbags to stylish boots and one of a kind cocktail dress creations. Not only do fashion designers have a keen eye for fashion, they are also skilled at drawing and sewing, and they can fish a fine fabric out of thousands of yards of imitations. Although fashion designers are considered “out of this world” by all other areas of fashion and beauty industry, only a small percentage ever make it as far as Christian Louboutin or Vera Wang. Some may end up wading in a sea of bauble shops, while others might end up working on their creations in their spare time. Fortunately, there are ways to increase your chances of truly making it in the fashion design industry.

One of the top cities for fashion designers is San Francisco, California. While not every fashion designer “makes it” by moving, many do leave their hometowns and head to places like New York, Texas (yes, Texas) and California. While Santa Ana, California and Oakland, California are home to a large population of fashion designers, the majority of California fashion designers migrate to San Francisco. San Francisco fashion designers are the 3rd highest paid in the industry with an average median annual salary of $ 70,360, Dallas fashion designers are in second at $ 71,640, and at $ 72,280 New York fashion designers hold the number one spot. But that’s not all. Fashion designers have the potential to earn up to $ 117,120+ per year – if they have certain skills and knowledge outside of creativity.

For starters, it’s best to forget what you see on TV. Not all successful fashion designers are rich and famous. Some are just rich! Most fashion designers enjoy lucrative and fulfilling fashion design careers in apparel manufacturing, designing for boutiques and high-end clothing stores, and designing for big name brands. They also work in the performing arts (film, costume design) and in education. Fashion designers may also work on a team of fashion designers for other fashion designers and they may also work for themselves. Self-employed fashion designers may sell their own creations to stores, boutiques, and individuals. Here are the facts: 73.5% of all fashion designers work for clothing retailers and in textile and apparel; 32% of fashion designers work part-time, and 26.5% of fashion designers are self-employed.

Next, talent and creativity go a long way, but so does education. Currently, 73.2% of all fashion designers have at least some college experience or a degree. Here is a breakdown: 6% of all fashion designers have a master’s degree, 29.1% have a bachelor’s degree, 18.8% have an associate degree, and 19.3% have some college but no degree (this usually translates to a certificate). If you want to start out working with a designer or in a shop, most employers prefer an associate degree at the least. While an associate degree from an accredited postsecondary institution will not fetch the best opportunities or the highest salary, it will get your foot in the door. In addition to college experience, most employers prefer some work experience (an internship or apprenticeship would be helpful), a portfolio of your work, and solid computer skills. In addition, according to CollegeDegreeReport.com, the fashion design industry has seen an increase in computer-aided design (CAD). Because of this,  those wishing to enter the field must be computer savvy and aware of trends in technology.

To date, there are roughly 250 accredited programs in art and design. In San Francisco, visit the California College of Arts or the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising – the west coast home of Project Runway.

The Artist’s Complete Guide to Figure Drawing: A Contemporary Perspective On the Classical Tradition

Many of us want to learn “how to draw.” But as artist Anthony Ryder explains, it’s much more important to learn what to draw. In other words, to observe and draw what we actually see, rather than what we think we see. When it comes to drawing the human figure, this means letting go of learned ideas and expectation of what the figure should look like. It means carefully observing the interplay of form and light, shape and line, that combine to create the actual appearance of human form. In
